Shoonya Intensive - Isha Yoga

Shoonya Intensive is one of the advance programs under Isha Yoga provided by Isha Foundation. This program is completely designed by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.

Undertaking it is considered as the committed step towards inner journey.

Other advance programs include Bhava Spandana and Samyama.

Once stillness comes into your life, then the mind also becomes absolutely still. When your mind becomes still, your intelligence explodes into new possibilities.

Shoonya meaning 'Zero' or in spiritual terms 'Nothingness'. So, by name, this program tries to feel (not just learn), the nothingness inside.

Shoonya Intensive Program Composition

The Shoonya Intensive Program consists of below processes:

  1. Shakti Chalana Kriya
  2. Shoonya Meditation
  3. Surya Namaskar
  4. Sukha Pranayama
  5. Sitting in Vajrasana upto 2 hours.

Shakti Chalan Kriya includes a set of processes which increases the flow of vital energy. It is a breathing technique which involves sitting in Vajrasana posture, using various mudras. It also involves making sounds of Dog, Crow and snake while breathing. While doing so, concentration is made on various parts of the body like lungs, pancreas and liver etc.

Shoonya Meditation is the mindful meditation in which there is conscious non-doing.

Both these processes helps people clear out their physical , mental and emotional blocks, leading to great inner transformation.

Shoonya Intensive Program Format

Shoonya Intensive Program is conducted as 4-day (kind of 3.5 days) residential program. Right now these residential retreats occurs in:

  • Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore, TamilNadu , India.
  • and Isha Institute of Inner-Sciences, Mcminnville, Tennessee, USA.

Typical Itinerary

All the processes which comes under the program are done in specific sequence. For example: on first and second day of retreat, mostly stretching exercise are done which are physical in nature. Then Shakti Chalan Kriya is introduced and program ends with Shoonya meditation.

Find below the typical itinerary of the program:

Day 1: Stretching exercises.

Day 2 : Stretching exercises and Surya namaskar.

Day 3 : 1/2 day Surya namaskar and then Shakti Chalan kriya.

Day 4 : Last day of the program is for Shoonya Meditation. For this, all the participants are divided into groups. Then, one by one, each group is taken to the initiation room. In initiation room, the direct disciple of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev give us the Seed (Beej) mantra with the technique on how to use it.

Major pointers taught as part of the technique are:

  • Just be a witness to your mind and thoughts.
  • Do not create, indulge or identify thoughts, just be an observer or witness of them.

Food is served in Ashram in morning and evening: twice per day.
