Isha Yoga is an umbrella name coined, under which many yoga programs are currently being run under the guidance of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. The programs under Isha Yoga is based on core principles of ancient Yoga System. The programs has been designed in such a way to fit it to modern human being.

This is what Sadhguru said about Isha Yoga:

You can go through life untouched, you can play with life which ever way you want, and still life cannot leave a scratch upon you. That is the miracle that Isha Yoga can manifest in everyone’s life.

Isha Yoga has been designed by Sadhguru himself and runs under the name of Isha foundation. As already stated above in the words of Sadhguru, the purpose of Isha Yoga is to take simple but concrete steps in the way of Spiritual progress and harmony. Programs of Isha Yoga works as doors to a person’s inner-self and help that person in inner-engineering.

Different programs under Isha Yoga

Isha Yoga offers different programs. Programs are divided into mainly two categories:

One is the Introductory Programs which tries to work towards a person’s overall well-being and other is Advance Programs which work towards Self-Realization. Please find below the list of programs under both the categories:

Introductory Programs

Introductory Programs

Inner Engineering

Inner Engineering, also known as ‘Isha Yoga Program‘ is Isha Foundation’s flagship program. The primary focus of this program is personal development in multiple aspects. By doing this program a person gets better in terms of physical aspect, intellectual aspect and prepares the ground for a person to go for more advance practices, in the direction of Spiritual development or Self-Realization.

Health benefits includes but not limited to increase in energy levels, better sleep, less stress and helpful in preventing diseases like allergies, diabetes, arthritis etc. and many others.

Other intangible benefits includes increase in concentration power and momory, stress management, better communication skills.

Hath Yoga by Isha Foundation

Hatha means ‘Stubbornness’. Hatha Yoga is an ancient Indian Science involved in using a particular body posture for a sustained period of time. Ancient Hatha Yoga texts involves a multitudes of Asanas and postures for certain effects.

This is what Sadhguru had to say about Hatha Yoga:

Hatha Yoga is the science of using the body to prepare oneself for the ultimate possibility.

Isha Hatha Yoga program developed by Sadhguru accounts for multiple yoga-asanas, a possible sub-set of Asanas described in ancient texts, to help body sustains higher level of energy.

By doing so, one can change the way in terms of thinking and feeling.

The program is good fit for both freshers and advance yoga practitioners. The program does not require any special physical requirement in terms of flexibility, agility and performance.

This is what Sadhguru said on another occasion in the context of Hatha Yoga:

Hatha Yoga is the phenomenon of aligning the human system with the cosmic – a way to hold one’s system in a way that it will become a receptacle to receive and hold the entire cosmos.

The meaning of above saying is simply that making the body strong so that when the realization happens, the body should be able to hold it without getting damaged.

Now there are five different Hatha Yoga practices a person gets involved with in Isha Hatha Yoga:

  1. Upayoga
  2. Angamardana
  3. Suryakriya
  4. Yogasanas
  5. Bhuta Shuddhi



Isha Yoga for children

Isha Yoga for children is a special program offered to children only. The program is lead by Isha Foundation teachers which are trained under direct guidance of Sadhguru.

Isha Yoga for children touches a child in two-dimensions. One is outer and other is Inner. For outer dimension, the program offers certain Asanas and for inner dimention it offers certain Kriyas.

As the program is specially directed to Children, the exercises and practices are introduced to Children in a playful manner.

Uyir Nokkam

Uyir Nokkam program is a combination of powerful yogic practives to synergize the body, mind, emotions, energy and five elements. This program help a person to take care of overall well-being and make a person become loving and joyful, naturally.

Right now this program is only available in Tamilnadu, India.




Advance Programs

Shoonya Intensive

Shoonya Intensive is an advance practice for those who want to dig deeper within them.

There are two practices involved in Shoonya Intensive program:

  1. Shakti Chalana Kriya
  2. Shoonya Meditation

Shakti Chalan Kriya enhances the flow of vital energy while Shoonya Meditation is an effortless process of conscious non-doing.

People who are involved with Zen meditation techniques would easily be able to relate Shoonya Meditation to a type of mindful meditation.

The theme of this program can be understood by below words of Sadhguru:

Once the stillness comes into your life, then the mind also becomes absolutely still. When your mind becomes still, your intelligence explodes.

Bhava Spandana

Bhava Spandana is an advance program designed by Sadhguru to make a person experience the higher level of consciousness by transcending the limitations of body and mind.

Here are the Sadhguru‘s words in the context of Bhava Spandana program:

Bhava Spandana is like making a person jump and look beyond the wall. He sees beyond his limitation experientially. Once he sees that, he knows that he must go over the wall one day to see that is on the other side.

The idea is to create a highly intense energetic environment in the body to  transcend the sense organs.

Further saying of Sadhguru on this:

You have lived within the limitations of human senses. Bhava Spandana is like giving you a lift so you can have a peep at life beyond the limitations of your five sense perceptions.

Bhav Spandana is a residential program.

Samyama

According to Sadhguru:

Samyama is a state where your awareness has reached a point – where you clearly know – you are fully aware that you are not the body, you are not the mind, you are not the world.

Samyama – A gateway to the beyond program is to make a person reach to that Samyama state.

It is a residential program.

Effects of Isha Yoga on Health

Health benefits of Isha Yoga has been studied through various researches in controlled environments. Below are the benefits seen:
